What's happening in the City of Ubuntu right now? Our on-site administrator, Basil, reports:

1. corn and soybeans

You may already know that last week we started the corn and soybean project to grow these two agricultural products on an area of over 2 hectares. So far the project is going well, although it is a little slow because we have had some setbacks. We have not been able to find stable labor for the project. Many of those we brought in to work left after only a few days for one reason or another. The last two groups we brought in last week also left. Nonetheless, at the moment we have managed to till about 1 hectare. We hope to fertilize and plant the part we have worked so far while we continue working the other hectare. Another difficulty is that we finished clearing the farm on February 25, 2023. During the time we waited for confirmation of the work, the grass grew back, and in some areas the grass is very wild, making it difficult for the workers to do their work. Therefore, sometimes we have to help a little with the machete to facilitate their work.

2. Cleaning of the cassava field

At the same time, last week we started cleaning the cassava fields. As a reminder, we planted cassava in three different sections in September and October 2022. Last week we started cleaning one of the portions. We hope to finish soon and tackle the others. So far the work is going positively, although slowly, and we may need to call in a person to help us a little because the cassava plant is well in the grass and needs urgent attention.

3. The Garden

In this context, we have also begun to plant a small garden, which will contain mainly spices. At the moment we are still waiting for the spices that we have requested, but we are trying to make do with what we have available at the moment, which is carrots and others. The other things that we will have here include sweet potatoes and coconuts. The seeds for sweet potatoes and coconuts come mainly from the farm, that is, from what was planted before and did not grow well. We hope that with the new method we are using, the sweet potatoes and coconut tree will do well this time. The work is very tedious because at the same time we have to clean the cassava plant, take care of the garden and then work with the people we brought for the corn and soybean project. It is very exhausting for one person.

4. Honey

We now have the final product of our honey, but we still have to filter it. In total we have harvested 46l. Unfortunately, we don't have pictures of it because we don't have the right containers to put the honey in. We have asked Father Eric for some containers and are now waiting for them. As soon as we have them, we will fill the containers and take the honey to Father Eric.

So far from me, I send you love from Sanki!
