Weekly Update #2

That's what happened during the week of 10/17-23/2022.

 

Last week was a busy week here at the City of Ubuntu. That was because certain things absolutely had to be done.

Garri
Nach langer Zeit haben wir endlich mit der Herstellung von Garri hier auf dem Gelände der City of Ubuntu begonnen. Wir hatten dies in den vergangenen Wochen eingeplant, aber aufgrund von Umständen, die sich unserer Kontrolle entzogen, war es uns nicht gelungen. Vor allem fehlte uns eine Maschine zum Mahlen des Manioks. Das ist auch der Grund, warum wir es für wichtig halten, eine eigene zu haben. Doch Gott sei Dank haben wir mit dem Prozess begonnen. Die Menge an Maniok, die wir entnommen haben und mit der wir die Verarbeitung von Garri begonnen haben, beträgt 4 Säcke à 100 kg. Die gemahlene Maniokpflanze befindet sich immer noch in den Säcken, wie Sie auf dem Bild sehen können. Wir haben 4 solcher Säcke. Sobald das meiste Wasser vollständig ausgepresst ist, wird mit dem Frittieren begonnen. Wir überlegen, ob wir die restliche Maniokpflanze noch in dieser Woche entfernen oder erst dieses erste Garri herstellen, bevor wir weitermachen. Wir haben noch reichlich Maniok auf der Farm.

Njinja
This week we also started weeding the njinja that we had on the farm. The njinja is due for harvest and we will harvest it in the coming days. It is also worth mentioning that the first cassava we planted this year was planted on this part with njinja. So weeding the njinja also means cleaning the cassava plant.

Sheep and goats
Our male sheep has become very dangerous lately and won't let anyone get close to him. All of us here have become victims of its rage. We fear that it might hurt someone. Therefore, we propose to sell it and replace it with a much younger animal.

In short, that is what was done this week. Other things, like cleaning the corn, have also been done, although we won't list that as a separate item. The corn has started to flower, so it could bear fruit in the coming days or weeks.
