What Does Ubuntu Mean Today?

Under the motto “Let’s talk Ubuntu”, we gathered on Thursday, March 19th, 2026, at Weltladen die Lerche on Lerchenfelder Straße. In the welcoming space generously made available to us, we spent the evening together with friends and interested guests, exploring what Ubuntu means — a philosophy that feels more relevant than ever in today’s world.

Questions guided the evening:
What does Ubuntu mean in times of global uncertainty?
How do young people imagine a City of Ubuntu?
What progress is being made on our land in Cameroon?
What could a future community house look like?
And what experiences did we take away from our journey to Cameroon last July?

Insights, Stories, and Dialogue

The board members of City of Ubuntu Austria shared insights and reflections on these questions, offering a glimpse into both ongoing projects and lived experiences.

What followed was a lively and engaged discussion, showing the strong interest in both the Ubuntu philosophy and the visions and initiatives connected to it. Ideas were exchanged, questions were raised, and the conversation continued well beyond the initial inputs — just as we had hoped.

Thank You to Weltladen Die Lerche

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Weltladen die Lerche and especially to Claudia Stoll for hosting this special evening. With great warmth and generosity, she opened not only the space but also created a welcoming atmosphere — including wonderful homemade Mexican food that brought everyone together.

We are grateful for this enriching collaboration and for the shared belief in values that connect us: community, fairness, and living Ubuntu in everyday life.
