Who We Are: City of Ubuntu Austria
City of Ubuntu Austria came into existence through the personal and professional connections of Jean de Dieu Tagne, who was working in Austria at the time and gathered like-minded individuals who shared his vision of Ubuntu.
The initiative began as a parish project in Maria Treu in Vienna’s 8th district before becoming an independent, civil society association open to all, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or background.
One of the first activities was the first Ubuntu Journey in 2022, a transformative experience where young people from Austria traveled to Cameroon. Inspired by what they saw and learned, two participants became active members of CoU Austria, further strengthening the movement.
Today, City of Ubuntu Austria continues to build bridges between Austria and Cameroon, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and shared development projects.
Local Projects & Activities
City of Ubuntu Austria is actively engaged in projects that connect people and create impact in both Austria and Cameroon. Our core initiatives include:
- Intercultural Exchange & Collaboration – Our annual Ubuntu Journey fosters dialogue and mutual understanding. We also promote intercultural exchange through events, discussions, and online initiatives.
- Entrepreneurship & Skill Development – We support workshops and training sessions with our colleagues in Cameroon to empower individuals with sustainable skills.
- Fundraising & Resource Mobilization – We fund to support our shared projects and raise contributions to building the City of Ubuntu.
- Ubuntu Center – Two Austrian architects from our team are leading a collaborative process to design and build the Ubuntu Center , combining African traditional techniques with modern eco-friendly architecture.
- Communication & Digital Presence – City of Ubuntu Austria helps manage our website and communication channels, sharing the Ubuntu message with a wider audience.
