A Beautiful Evening of Encounters, Music, and Ubuntu
On May 29th, 2026, City of Ubuntu Austria once again took part in the Long Night of Churches in Vienna. For the third year in a row, we were invited to be present with an Ubuntu stand in front of Piaristenkirche Maria Treu in Vienna’s 8th district.
This year’s event could hardly have offered better conditions. The weather was perfect, the square in front of the church was lively throughout the evening, and the atmosphere was especially warm and welcoming. We had many inspiring conversations with visitors about the Ubuntu philosophy and the projects of City of Ubuntu in Austria and Cameroon.
Ubuntu to Take Home
Our stand also featured a selection of handmade products from Cameroon, which attracted great interest. We were delighted that so many visitors chose to take home a piece of Ubuntu through these beautiful crafts, supporting both local artisans and our projects at the same time.
Beyond the products, it was the personal encounters that made the evening special. We met long-time supporters, curious first-time visitors, and many people who were inspired by the idea that “I am because you are.”
Music That Brings People Together
A highlight of the evening was once again our now almost traditional balafon, which proved just as popular with children as with adults. Throughout the evening, people gathered around the instrument to try it out, listen, and connect.
In true Ubuntu spirit, the balafon even became the starting point for several spontaneous and wonderfully international music sessions. Musicians from different backgrounds came together, creating impromptu bands and filling the square with rhythm, laughter, and shared joy. It was a beautiful reminder that music speaks a language everyone can understand.
A True Ubuntu Experience
Events like the Long Night of Churches remind us that Ubuntu is not only a philosophy—it is something that can be experienced. Through encounters, conversations, music, and community, we witnessed once again how people from different backgrounds can come together and create something meaningful.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the Parish of Maria Treu for inviting us once again and for the excellent organization of this wonderful event. It was a celebration for everyone involved, and we are grateful to have been part of it.
We are already looking forward to next year.
