The Heart and Workforce of the City of Ubuntu

Behind every success in the City of Ubuntu are the dedicated people who care for the land, the plants, and the animals. Today, we want to introduce you to our heroes on site: Boniface, Basil, and Borel. They live and work on the grounds, often under challenging conditions and with physically demanding manual labor. Their commitment and energy are the foundation of everything that grows in Ubuntu.

Dr. Boniface Takou Kamte: Visionary Leadership with a Farmer’s Heart

Since April 2025, Dr. Boniface has been the production supervisor and coordinator of the City of Ubuntu site in Sanki.

The 35-year-old is married and father of six children. In the beginning of 2025, he defended his doctorate in economics at the university of Dschang in West Cameroon.

Having already contributed to one of our precursor-associations, BLAS in Africa, Boniface was already close to our founder, Jean de Dieu, when he finished university and was looking for a job.

A true stroke of luck for us, he is not only a doctor of economics but also grew up on a farm- a perfect combination for the challenges on the land!

With his deep love of agriculture and livestock, combined with vision, attention to detail, and tireless energy, Boniface has already achieved impressive results in just a short time.

‘Happiness is the result of sacrifice and perseverance.’

Basil Chiambah Fulmai: The Pioneer of Ubuntu

Basil was the very first man “on the field” in the City of Ubuntu. When he arrived, there was nothing – no well, no house, no infrastructure. At first, he had to commute daily from a nearby village until the first building was finished. Step by step, he managed to bring life to the land: the first harvests of maize, soybeans, cassava, and ginger, and also the first animals that were raised on site.

Basil grew up in the Anglophone part of Cameroon and studied philosophy and theology in Yaoundé. Over the years, he gained experience in teaching, animal rearing, and volunteering with The Grace, a charity that supports schoolchildren in need.

Today, Basil continues to split his time between the fields and the animals, with days structured around planting, weeding, and harvesting, as well as caring for pigs, goats, and chickens.

We are grateful for Basil’s pioneering work in the early years of the City of Ubuntu and happy that he is now joined by colleagues who share the responsibility and support him in building the future of Ubuntu.

Hermann Borel Sado Fotsi: A Passion for Mechanics and a Sunny Nature

The youngest of the team, 24-year-old Borel, brings energy and joy to the work. He joined Basil at the beginning of 2025 as the second field officer of the City of Ubuntu.

Since then, he has been deeply involved in all areas of work: preparing the fields, planting and weeding, caring for the animals, and even building shelters and hutches for poultry and rabbits. He also played a role in shaping the first garden beds and contributed to the beginnings of the medicinal garden with an aloe vera field.

Borel’s passion, however, lies in mechanics – a skill he acquired through professional training and previous work in automotive workshops. This expertise is a real advantage for the City of Ubuntu, where he takes care of machines and equipment and is the first one to use new machinery!

"Always do your best to ensure that your actions reflect the world in which you would like to live."

The Challenge: Better Working Conditions Needed

As much as we admire the dedication of Boniface, Basil, and Borel, we know that sustainable management requires better working conditions. The work is hard and the dry season poses major risks for both people and plants.

Next Goal: An Irrigation System for Ubuntu

To secure the crops and ease the burden on our team, an irrigation system is urgently needed. This is our next big step in ensuring that the carefully nurtured plants survive the dry season – and that our heroes can continue their work under safer, more sustainable conditions.

👉 Support our mission: Donate to help us build the irrigation system and stand with the team behind the City of Ubuntu. Together, we can secure the future.
